Published proof for Valio Evolus® Double Effect spread
Valio Evolus® Double Effect spread is unique and the tasty, natural, safe and most convenient way to lower cholesterol and help control blood pressure as part of a healthy daily diet and lifestyle.
A recently published trial conducted in 2008 over a 10 week intervention period recruited 62 subjects divided into two groups of 31, one of which used the Valio Evolus® Double Effect spread and the other received the placebo spread.
“The results of this first trial with Valio Evolus® Double Effect spread were excellent,” reports Concept Manager Dr Tiina Jauhiainen of Valio’s Innovative Concepts and Technologies Group. There was a very clear and statistically significant reduction in systolic blood pressure compared to the control group. A difference was also observed with regard to diastolic blood pressure.

Valio Evolus® Double Effect spread delivers a sufficient daily dose at 20 grams per day, equivalent to 4 slices of bread and spread. In addition to the beneficial blood pressure effect, the trial showed a clearly positive effect in reducing both total cholesterol and harmful LDL cholesterol, and was especially significant in that the spread employs a totally different matrix to other Valio Evolus® Double Effect products.
The introduction of this unique spread, the world’s first to combine two functional components, is a true indicator of Valio’s ability to innovate and extend new and successful concepts.
In this case, the product is especially attractive in terms of its ease of use and notable in overcoming the technological challenge of making good tasting spread.
“We believe consumers understand the concept of a cholesterol lowering product and if it lowers blood pressure values at the same time it’s an even more effective way to reduce the risk for cardiovascular diseases. We now need to ensure the products’ double effect quality is equally well understood,” Tiina notes.

The variety of tasty Valio Evolus® Double Effect products now available means they can easily be combined to supply the recommended daily dose using the spread, shot drinks, yoghurts and sour milk.
The technology at work
Plant sterol lowers total cholesterol and harmful LDL cholesterol, but leaves the beneficial HDL cholesterol in place. Milk protein is degraded into smaller components using Valio’s patented fermentation process, creating peptides that inhibit the action of the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) which raises blood pressure.
